In the history, a lot of commemorative international days are found. These days including Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Rwandan Genocide are used by various governments, groups and organizations to raise awareness of an issue, commemorate a group or event, or celebrate something. The United Nations General Assembly UNESCO or UN designates and coordinates a number of International Days to mark important aspects of human life and history.
International days raise some issue of international interest or concern. These international days are used to commemorate, promote and mobilize for action. These days also present a written report about the event and summarize the activities that took place around the world and make recommendations for the future.
Sometimes the promotion of a specific day is led by a specific UNESCO program, for instance the World Health Organization (WHO) organizes World Health Day and World No-Tobacco Day, UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) holds World Water Day and International Literacy Day, UN Environment Program (UNEP) holds World Environment Day etc.
Some UN agencies also have their own international days (e.g. WHO’s World TB Day and UNESCO’s World Philosophy Day). This day is not designated by the UN General Assembly.
April 7 is the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Rwandan Genocide, which commemorates the deaths of 800,000 people who were murdered during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, central Africa.
On the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Rwandan Genocide, memorial ceremonies are held around the world. Candle-lighting and a minute of silence to honor the victims of the Rwanda genocide are included in these ceremonies on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Rwandan Genocide. This Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Rwandan Genocide is also a time for diplomats and key community figures to talk with communities about the inhumanities of genocide and the significance of working towards a peaceful way of life. Student conferences, exhibitions, and other commemorative activities are also held on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Rwandan Genocide.
